The Herbst appliance is designed for use in the treatment of Class II maloclusions in children
Great Lakes Orthodontic Productsappliance is designed for use in the treatment of Class II maloclusions in children. It offers the advantage of adjustability. The post and sleeve mechanism prompts the jaw to a forward position. If it is determined that the position does not provide anticipated relief of the condition, the mandible can be moved forward. Two options of adjustability are available. With the standard hardware, the mandible is advanced in one mm increments by adding advancement shims on the posts. The telescopic version allows the clinician to advance the mandible in 0.24 mm increments by making one full turn of the protrusion nut incorporated into the hardware. The device is also offered in a soft version. Opposing ball clasp hooks at the upper and lower first bicuspid region are joined by elastics to maintain the mandibular position. These elastics need to be replaced periodically.
